which session for me?

Congrats on your new expected arrival!

Nothing is more magical than welcoming a new baby into your family. The tiny, delicate fingers and toes; the precious, soft skin; the certainty that this is a love unlike any you have known. You are certain that your life will never be the same. These moments pass so quickly, which is why it is so important to capture them in photographs forever. It is a privilege for me to preserve this special milestone for you and your family to remember forever.

There are three different newborn photography sessions that I offer and that can be combined.

1.) At-Home Lifestyle Sessions - These are the simplest and most candid sessions. These sessions take place in your home typically. The baby is photographed in natural settings and poses that the baby moves into naturally/unaided. These images are more about capturing the baby naturally and usually have a much more very relaxed, documentary-style vibe.

2.) Posed Sessions - These are the sessions with backdrops, lighting, props, the whole set-up! I've found that these sessions are also great when captured in the family's home as well. It is the place your family + baby will be most comfortable as you have everything you need. Set-up will be provided and done by the photographer, which does make these sessions a bit longer. Set-up includes lighting, backdrops, posing beanbags, blankets/fabrics, and props. These are classic images that many parents love to have captured of their baby.

3.) Hospital Fresh 48 Sessions - These special sessions are for those new families who want the first few hours of their newborn’s life captured. These sesions happen at the baby's place of birth and are held within 24-48 hours of baby's arrival. This will just be capturing your baby’s sweet new moments in a fresh natural way!

Everyone who has been a parent knows that those early days go by in the blink of an eye. The things you treasure so much – the smell of a baby’s skin, the feel of his or her little body cuddled against yours – become distant but cherished memories as your children quickly change and grow. I'm so honored to be there at the beginning of your little one’s journey to capture this time of beauty and innocence in photographs that you and your loved ones will treasure.

newborn session faq

When should I book my newborn/fresh 48 session?

Scheduling is suggested as soon as possible. Newborn sessions take place when your new arrival is between 15 days old (under 9 days for posed sessions). While fresh 48 sessions happen with much less notice, taking place within 48 hours of birth at the babies place of delivery or new home!

When should I contact you to come for my fresh 48 session?

I suggest somebody contacts me after you go into labor so we can ensure availability for the suggested time-frame. :)

What if labor takes longer than expected?

Just let me know when your little bug arrives and we can schedule from there based on comfort levels and things like that – regardless of labor length.

What if my baby needs to be in the NICU?

In this event we will stay in touch and it is handled on a case-by-case basis. In the event that I am unable to photograph as planned due to these circumstances your session fee will be applied to a future session, or refunded.

Will my photos/identity be private?

I always include a model release for all of my clients, which allows me to use the images for my portfolio, website, and advertising. However, if you would like to opt-out, just let me know, and I will not include this.

maternity session faq

When should I book my maternity session?

Maternity sessions are best held when the expecting mother is 28-36 weeks pregnant. It's never too early to schedule your maternity session. Please book your session as soon as possible to make sure that we are able to hold your session during those weeks and make changes as needed.

What if it rains on the day of our session?

I keep a list of dates every month that I purposely do not schedule sessions on just for this reason. If the weather happens to interfere with our session, we will reschedule for a session date that's not too far out.

Where should we take our pictures?

I have a variety of locations all over the Sacramento and Reno-Tahoe area that I use depending on what kind of pictures you're looking for. All locations are mutually agreed upon prior to your session! If there is a location you want the photos taken specifically at, please request it. I am happy to come to your home or explore the beautiful options within the area!

How do we view our images?

The retouched images are view able online 1-2 weeks after your session. You will receive an email with a link to your gallery on my website where you can download all of your high-resolution images.

What if I want to bring props/an additional outfit for my session?

You are more than welcome to do so!

What should we wear for our session?

For maternity sessions, I love shooting flowy maternity gowns! Not only do they photograph well, but they make the expecting mama glow! For family shoots, couples shoots, and lifestyle shoots, coordinate your clothes instead of matching them. Pick a color palette and stick with it. Keep your families clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style, don't mix casual and formal clothing in photos. Feel free to accessorize! Accessories show up great in photos. Try to avoid big logos on your childrens clothing, and avoid wearing strips as this can come out blurry in the camera. Most importantly, wear something your comfortable and confident in!
